Allied Universal® is hiring a Union Helper - IBEW. The Helper will assist a Journeyman/Foremen on install and configure commercial electronic security systems for enterprise commercial clients (door access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, low voltage communication, electronic locks, point sensors, signaling devices, etc.). Overnight travel may be required on an as-need basis.
Pay: $52.40 an hour
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work alongside Foreman to learn fiber splicing while preparing, organizing, and maintaining splice cases, trays, equipment, and overall worksite to support fiber splicing activities
- Assist with fiber identification, hand tools, and setup for OTDR and fiber testing
- Pull fiber cable through conduit, vaults, handholes, and aerial pathways
- Support installation of conduit, innerduct, and fiber infrastructure
- Perform basic construction tasks including digging, backfilling, site restoration, and material staging
- Follow OSHA and utility safety standards, including PPE use, traffic control, and work-zone protection
- Maintain clean and organized job sites, trailers, vehicles, and participate in safety briefings
- Operate hand and power tools, assist with equipment maintenance, and handle ladders, reels, and company vehicles when authorized
QUALIFICATIONS (MUST HAVE):
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current driver’s license required if operating a company or personal vehicle for business purposes (e.g., client visits, attending networking events)
- Ability to obtain required state licenses or certifications (e.g., PERC, if applicable)
- No prior experience required
- Mechanical aptitude with willingness to learn fiber-optic, telecommunications systems and fusion splicing, with a basic understanding of fiber optic color codes
- Ability to read simple prints and splice diagrams
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting 50+ pounds
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision while maintaining strong attention to detail and organization
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and customers
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (NICE TO HAVE):
- Prior experience in fiber installation, telecommunications, or construction support roles
- Basic knowledge of fiber-optic color codes or telecommunications infrastructure
- Experience working with hand tools, power tools, or construction equipment
