Location: Security Shift Supervisor - Menlo Park, CA.

Schedule: Full Time, Varied Shifts (Open availability), Monday through Friday

Allied Universal Services is currently searching for a Professional Security Shift Supervisor.

The Shift Security Supervisor will supervise and coordinate the delivery of quality services on a specific shift at an assigned customer. The Security Shift Supervisor will act as a liaison between site supervisor, Account Manager/Field Operations Manager and professional security officers. Supervise staff on assigned shift, providing coaching, recognition and discipline within approved empowerment range.

  • Position Summary

    The Security Supervisor is a lead operations position responsible for directing and assigning duties to patrol and gate officers across all three shifts (Day, Swing, and Grave). The Supervisor oversees site protection activities including patrol operations, access and key control, surveillance monitoring, incident response, and emergency coordination. The Supervisor serves as acting Site Account Manager in the absence of the Security Account Manager and ensures continuity of security operations at all times.

    Essential Functions

    Shift Leadership & Staffing

    • Assign and communicate patrol zones, gate posts, traffic duties, and special tasks to officers for each shift based on staffing levels, site risk, and operational priorities.

    • Assign and direct and assure all lead officers for each shift to conduct all and complete all security responsibilities and duties by SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory account manager.

    • Verify all assigned officers are present, properly uniformed and equipped, and trained for their designated posts.

    • Confirm that at least one Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is on duty at all times.

    • Conduct and receive pass-down briefings; review daily logs, incident reports, open alarms, key issues, and special instructions.

    • Act as Site Account Manager and point of escalation during the Security Account Manager’s absence.

    Patrol & Physical Security

    • Direct officers to conduct scheduled and unscheduled vehicle and foot patrols of roadways, parking areas, perimeter zones, buildings, fenced areas, and locked gates.

    • Ensure building security checks, door lock/unlock activities, and fence line inspections are performed and logged.

    • Enforce traffic control policies including GSA/handicap parking, fire zones, EV charging stations, and stop sign compliance.

    • Oversee escort services for staff, contractors, visitors, deliveries, and employee separations.

    • Support HR during employee terminations – ensure professional, discreet escort and access restriction procedures are followed.

    • Implement the SLAC Unclassified Foreign Visits Assignment Program and related foreign national access controls.

    Access Control, Surveillance & Key Control

    • Maintain accountability for all site master keys, special area keys, patrol key rings, and janitorial key rings; document all issuances and returns.

    • Approve and assign master keys to employees for authorized special projects per site authorization requirements.

    • Monitor CCTV cameras, intrusion alarms, and access control systems; ensure gate officers acknowledge and act on alarms promptly.

    • Review CCTV footage during incident investigations; document alarm activity, operator actions, and unresolved system issues.

    • Coordinate unresolved access control or surveillance technical issues with the Security Manager or designated support personnel.

    Emergency Response & Incident Management

    • Upon notification of an emergency, assess the situation and initiate response without delay; ensure 911 is contacted immediately for emergencies requiring public safety services.

    • Direct officers to preserve life, secure the scene, guide responders, and control access during incidents.

    • Coordinate with law enforcement, fire, ambulance, and SLAC representatives on arrival.

    • Investigate security incidents, collect preliminary facts, preserve evidence, and review CCTV as applicable.

    • Ensure all incident reports, escalation notices, and post-incident documentation are completed before end of shift.

    Facility Conditions & Training

    • Report HVAC abnormalities, water leaks, plumbing issues, and facility concerns to the appropriate maintenance or engineering contact during patrol.

    • Conduct and document weekly lighting surveys; submit non-operational light reports to facilities support.

    • Ensure officers are trained on access control systems, surveillance systems, alarm response, key control, traffic duties, and medical response expectations.

    • Document on-the-job training, performance gaps, and remedial instruction; report training deficiencies to management.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework or advanced security training preferred.

    • Prior experience in security, law enforcement, military, or emergency response.

    • Demonstrated ability to supervise personnel and manage shift-level operations.

    • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

    • Ability to qualify for site access and complete required background screening.

    • EMT certification preferred or required if designated by the employer.

    • Proficiency with radios, computers, surveillance systems, alarm systems, report-writing platforms, and traffic control equipment.

    Key Competencies

    • Knowledge of patrol procedures, access control, alarm monitoring, incident response, and documentation requirements.

    • Ability to remain calm, make sound decisions, and direct personnel effectively during emergencies.

    • Strong interpersonal skills for professional engagement with employees, visitors, contractors, first responders, and management.

    • Ability to maintain strict accountability for keys, access devices, reports, and enforcement equipment across all three shifts.

    • Commitment to confidentiality and appropriate handling of sensitive security and personnel matters.

    • Physical ability to walk, stand, drive, climb stairs, and work outdoors in varying weather and lighting conditions.

    Performance Standards

    The Security Supervisor is expected to maintain full shift awareness of staffing levels, active incidents, alarms, and post assignments at all times. Patrol and gate assignments must be completed on schedule and documented

    accurately. All keys, access devices, and enforcement equipment must be strictly accounted for. Emergencies are to be responded to promptly and in accordance with site procedures. The Supervisor must communicate clearly with management and site partners, escalate issues appropriately, and model professional conduct and procedural consistency on every shift.
