The Armed Security Operations Team Leader is tasked with safeguarding the Allied Universal Enhanced Protection Services client in Portland, Oregon. The Security Operations Team Leader position requires individuals who can lead a team in a dynamic environment and possess the physical, operational, and tactical capabilities to address wide-ranging security related tasks.
This is a full-time job opportunity working five 9-hour shifts a week (Monday through Friday) with the ability to cover weekends, or overnight (grave) shifts if necessary. The Security Operations Team (SOT) provides security for designated properties and personnel using a protective response model. SOT personnel should maintain a low profile while on duty and are not only responsible for security, but also for providing real-time information about the surrounding area of the work site. SOT personnel should understand the baseline of the normal environment, and accurately and decisively communicate to supporting entitles when required. This SOT Team Leader will have high contact and interaction with the client; therefore, SOT personnel are expected to continually maintain a high-level of physical fitness, professional appearance, and customer service. The full-time SOT personnel will work five 9-hour shifts for this security detail. SOT personnel are often directed to work nights, holidays, and weekends. We are looking for protection professionals with a high level of emotional intelligence and maturity.
Applicants should be in excellent overall physical, mental, and emotional condition, have a strong reputation as a team player and uphold high standards. Must be willing to work long hours and manage ever-changing schedules. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to tactfully negotiate conflict and remain flexible is a must. SOT Team Leader must possess the ability to interact with all levels of corporate management, liaise internally and externally with a multitude of other departments and personnel. Strong oral communication and representational skills are essential. Team Leaders must be able to brief, defend, persuade, and instruct others on security requirements and policies. Demonstrated leadership, teamwork and organizational skills and the ability to write in a clear and concise manner are also required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage SOT mobile response elements, deterring criminal actions against client properties and personnel, disrupting crimes in progress, and coordinating law enforcement response, enforcement, and investigation
- Conduct site security assessments and physical security surveys of client properties to evaluate structural and technological security systems, identifying gaps, weaknesses, and vulnerabilities, and providing immediate actions or recommendations to structural, technological, or operational elements
- Recommend and oversee construction upgrades to include cameras, barricades, bollards, campus lighting, and improvements as directed
- Review, inspect, and test uniformed guard force operations and interface with guard force supervisors, account directors, operations officers, and client managers to correct deficiencies and/or optimize operations
- Identify security gaps and misalignments, including security staffing and positioning issues, needed structural security elements such as bollards and physical access controls, and proper video surveillance configurations and monitoring
- Identify and correct security personnel performance failures, inconsistencies, and unacceptable levels of readiness
- Identify and correct performance failures related to guard force command structure, operations, and supervision
- Provide overall leadership and guidance to security vendor account director and security supervisors
- Conduct threat assessment and predictive analysis of local security issues, likely threats, criminal patterns, radical activist threat potential and patterns, law enforcement response and enforcement, homeless mitigation, and political trends related to prosecution and incarceration
- Conduct surveillance operations and penetration tests on client properties, at all hours, to determine effectiveness of deterrence, detection, denial, and defensive security elements
- Provide oversight and management of covert and overt protection operations to client personnel and properties
- Lead and work within a cross-functional security team
- Report to the AU Enhanced Protection Services management team (Program Manager and Director)
- Provide plain clothes executive protection, event security, and other security tasks as directed by Program Manager
- Safeguard client worksite, personnel, and highly sensitive and confidential information
- Conduct all facets of protective duties
- Create, update, and implement security post orders and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Continually assess and improve SOT team readiness and capabilities
- Follow and enhance the directed SOW
- Participate in operational sustainment training, including firearms and less-lethal device; legal issues around trespassing, enforcement actions, and procedures; legal issues around citizen use of force and citizen arrest; homeless mitigation and management of aggressive behavior; active shooter response and mitigation; use of force and physical methods of arrest; report writing; additional training as directed
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
The SOT Team Leader must have:
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- A valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Oregon DPSST Armed Private Security Professional certification.
- Oregon or Washington concealed handgun permit.
- A minimum of five years' experience leading teams of law enforcement officers, military personnel, or armed security teams.
- Proven subject matter expertise in all things armed corporate security including local laws, use of force policies, de-escalation, conflict resolution, crisis management and client relations
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong handgun skills.
- Current Basic Life Support certification (First Aid, CPR, AED)
- Ability to work 9-hour shifts and some evenings, weekends, and holidays as required to perform mobile and static rapid response security duties.
- Experience in compiling and reporting security-related metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) including weekly, quarterly, and annual reports, delivering and presenting quarterly business reviews (QBRs)
- Experience scheduling personnel for shift coverage
All necessary armed security guard licensing required by the state of Oregon to perform armed security work in the state of Oregon.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Relevant military, law enforcement, or armed security experience, security-related degrees and certifications.
